And here it is! The full costume! And the more I look at the photo, the more I feel like I looked like an utter dork in the outfit...

I was at the library's end-of-summer breakfast when this photo was taken. My boss wanted me to dress up to entertain the kids. It was nice getting a "dry run" in the costume before the convention, and it was surprising how many children recognized me as a Transformer. (Though I had to keep correcting some of them -- I'm NOT Starscream!)

I left out the arm guns and any armor on the legs, as you can tell. I wanted to still be able to move around comfortably. As it was, the chest piece restricts arm movement and doorways are a pain in the neck... :P

Materials used to achieve the TC look:

2 styrofoam coolers
2 large cardboard boxes
1 2-liter plastic soda bottle
1 large roll of duct tape
sewing elastic
black and blue spray paint
red acrylic paint
4 Decepticon insignias (printed out on the computer and taped to the wings -- was going to paint them on but lack the artistic skills)
1 long-sleeved blue T-shirt
1 pair blue scrub pants
1 pair black suede-and-leather gloves
1 pair black slip-ons
silver face paint

It's not the best costume, but hey, when you only get the idea two weeks before the convention and then wait until five days before to start making it, you can't complain too much.

Q: How many Transformers fans does it take to change a light bulb?

A: Eight. One to change it, and the rest to complain that the light bulb was so much better back in the 80s.

I support well-written, in-character fanfic!

Neat. Though some red tinted sunglasses would make it look even cooler.

Yeah I\'m a Jeff Gordon Fan you got a problem with it?.....do yah?

I am 1 of 98% of Cars fangirls believe that cars can have sex and/or slashes the characters. If you are accepting of others rights to believe in that, copy/paste this into your sig.

There's an idea. When I went to buy makeup the lady at the costume shop tried to sell me red "anime" contact lenses, but I passed. Since I don't wear contacts normally, they would have bugged me to no end. :P

Oh they did. :) One kid followed me around and kept asking questions, such as why I wasn't looking for Minicons and where was Megatron. Though one kid tried poking my helmet, I guess to see what it was made of.

Thanks for the fave!

Hi there!
Dang thats pretty good! My cousin and my mum are looking and they think it rocks ^^
Mum especially likes how you actually made it instead of buying one
Maaaan I REALLY have to get crackin' at the Megs suit.
Thats really cool how the kids liked and recognized you too!

Thanks. :) It was made entirely through trial and error -- I could find NO websites showing how to make the thing.

For Megatron, I would recommend actually painting him rather than using duct tape to make him gray/silver. I covered the chest piece and helmet in duct tape, and the warm weather's starting to make them peel. :P

Trial and Error's sometimes the best way to go ;)

I'll have to keep that in mind. Hopefully I might get lots of styro-foam sheets and make most of the arms, shins and torso that way. Perhaps I could make the helmet out of metal sheets :plotting:

Styrofoam coolers are wonderful! Cut 'em apart and use pieces as needed. Plus the handles of the coolers made good side-vents on my TC helmet. :) No idea about how well metal will work 'cause I've never used it. I would recommend trying that first -- that way if it doesn't work out you have time to make a backup.
