Celebrate DA's birthday and get a story too!

Whew! What a day! Did plenty of fun stuff, met plenty of fun people, and took plenty of pictures (which I'll upload after the convention's over). Here's a quick rundown of what happened today:

Got to the convention at 10 AM to find plenty of people there but almost no one at the tables or in the dealer room. Hung out, played some Guitar Hero in the game room, and took pictures. Met Sonic the Hedgehog and No Face as well as some anime characters whose names escape me.

Got plenty of positive comments on my "Han Shot First" shirt. Also saw a T-shirt with the Autobot Symbol on it that I'm going to buy tomorrow when I actually have cash on my person.

Talked to the local Star Wars club leaders. I've met these guys every year at the 'con and for some reason never get around to joining their club. Must remind myself to get an application this year...

Ate pocky for the first time. Why is a candy-dipped pretzel stick the "official" anime food? Just curious.

Attended my first yoga class. Boring, you say? Then you've never seen a girl in a "naughty nurse" costume or a kid dressed as an ear of corn do yoga poses...

Changed into my Thundercracker costume around 3 PM. EVERYONE loved it, most wanted pictures, and a surprisingly good number of people actually knew the name of my character! Plus they talked me into entering the costume contest, which will take place tomorrow. Oh dear...

Met Michael Coleman (Stargate SG1, Inuyasha, Dragonball Z, Gundam Seed, etc.) and the guys who do the webcomics "Something Positive" and "Culture Shock." Hey, this is Idaho, we don't tend to get bigger-name celebs here.

Saw a table where they were showing episodes of the G1 Transformers show. I sat down to watch and got to see several episodes -- "Traitor," "Autobot Spike," "Changing Gears," and an episode where Megatron turns Prime and a bunch of other Autobots evil (didn't catch the title). As I was watching, someone walked up, looked at me, looked at the TV screen, and said "How ironic is it that a Transformer is watching Transformers?"

Went to a concert where they played and sang music from anime and sci-fi shows. The singer asked "How many of you like Transformers?" A lot of people cheered, and I gave a HUGE whoop from my seat in the second row. The guy saw my costume and clapped for me, and after the concert demanded a picture of me.

Changed out of my costume and washed off the face paint around 8 PM. The ladies' room was packed with girls changing into elaborate dresses for the No Pants Dance (you have to be covered, you just can't wear pants -- dresses, skirts, kilts, togas, sarongs, garbage bags, etc. are fine). I suspect one of the "girls" was actually a drag queen, but it's not like I was going to ask or check...

Tomorrow's the costume contest, the Kingdom Hearts cosplay, a book reading, and more fun and games. I'll let everyone know how it goes!

Q: How many Transformers fans does it take to change a light bulb?

A: Eight. One to change it, and the rest to complain that the light bulb was so much better back in the 80s.

I support well-written, in-character fanfic!

I doubt I'm going to win anything, as there are people here that spend hundreds of dollars on costumes. But it'll be fun. And thanks for cheering me on!

Hope you can make it! I'll cross my fingers.

More people showed up today, and more people commented on it. Though I think I'm gonna need a nametag here soon... people keep calling me Starscream...

@Kenya: There was this company, MTM (named after actress Mary Tyler Moore), that featured a cat as its mascot that passed away in 1988. The cat's name -- Mimsie (a he, not a she).
