Day two of the madness!
First order of business -- my Thundercracker costume. That thing seriously needs a huge name tag. People recognized me as a Transformer, but most thought I was Starscream. Sorry people, I don't like the whiny backstabbing creep. *ducks and runs from Screamer's rabid fangirls*
Another hazard of the costume -- the wings. I've lost count of the number of people I've biffed with the wings, and doorways are a problem. I'm getting pretty good at walking sideways...
Anyhow, after wandering around the dealer room this morning and buying a few things (I'll post pictures of my "loot" after the convention), I changed into my TC getup and went to the costume contest. Costumes were judged on severel factors, including accuracy, workmanship, and showmanship (how well you strutted your stuff onstage). I didn't win -- first place was a character from "Legend of Zelda" and the second was a character named Snake (didn't catch what show he was from). However, afterward the judges approached me and said I had scored very high for making my costume almost totally from scratch, and if there had been a third place I would have gotten it.
I talked to a fantasy author and bought a copy of his book, which I'm planning on donating to the library. He also mentioned that he was one of the judges for the story contest, and that he really liked my story "Ghost Jets." He's not the only judge, so it's not guaranteed that I've won anything yet, but still...
I also played more Guitar Hero and drew weird looks. What, can't a Decepticon jam to "Shout At the Devil" and "Trogdor?"
One of the contests held today was the Marker Battle, which is like close-range paintball. Everyone puts on a white shirt (provided by the staff) and is given a marker, and the object is to mark as many people as you can without getting marked yourself. Whoever has the shirt with the fewest markings on it wins. I didn't win, but since I won the Marker Battle last year, I wasn't concerned.
A professional cosplay group called Ichidan performed an elaborate play. It was based on Kingdom Hearts and was called "The Keyblade War." Basically the premise was that all the fantasy, sci-fi, and anime worlds were connected through Kingdom Hearts, and Maleficent and Lord Voldemort wanted to take them over. So all these characters were given keyblades and told to fight -- Sora of course, but also Harry Potter, Superman, Jack Sparrow, Naruto, Link, Sailor Moon, and others. I got lost halfway through the play, but it was still fun to watch.
This evening I attended a panel on webcomics, where four webcomic authors (including the creator of "Something Positive") answered questions. I have a better appreciation for webcomic-ers now, and will be a little more understanding when Matt Moylan and Wayward aren't exactly on time with updates...
Tonight was the Maniac Masquerade, a dance for people in costume, but I got fed up with the loud techno music and ended up going home instead. And I'll be back tomorrow for the final day of the insanity...

The character from LoZ, what did they look like? Snake I believe is from Metal Gear Solid (knowledge drilled into my mind thanks to Chibidoodledump)
*imagines Megs preforming Trogdor*
Marker battle huh? I aughta suggest that to mum for the LARP ^^ it is after all a gladiator type of LARP (from Star Trek but w/e)
Sounds like you had tons of fun!!

I think of Megatron playing Guitar Hero and I immediately think of your Heavy Metal picture.
I do hope you can make it next year! It's always fun to go to a 'con when someone you know will be there.

Q: How many Transformers fans does it take to change a light bulb?
A: Eight. One to change it, and the rest to complain that the light bulb was so much better back in the 80s.
I support well-written, in-character fanfic!
Mmmm techno. It's alright, I can only listen to a little techno at a time. ^^
Whoo if you're biffing people with your wings, I wonder what the people with the full size wings go through? ^^

The judges said if I get more of a head start on my costume next year, I could probably win something. So now I'm thinking of how I can improve on the outfit. Either that or I can try another character, like Jazz.
Oy, I don't want to think about how much trouble full-size wings would be...

Yey I made a memorable picture!!
Mum seems totally into the metal Megs costume (cuz its metal it wont break down as easily as the Vader one) and the prices of the con, compared to many others I've tried convincing her to go to, are pretty cheap. So its very likely we'll go

Sounds like one cool convention. I'm interested in what 'loot' you snagged.
If I end up making some sort of costume it'll probably be Armada Starscream with full size wings. Doors are something that worries me though, what with that bit that sticks out of his back in combination with the wings...

Peace isn't the opposite of war, it's creation.
I don't have a huge amount of loot -- the costume lacks pockets, making it hard to collect much at a time, and I put a $100 limit on my spending so I didn't go broke. I'll try to get pictures up tonight.
Good luck with your costume! Yes, doors can be tricky. I got really good at walking sideways, but I couldn't always avoid hitting someone with the wings (lucky everyone was understanding). And I could see everyone visibly tense when I wandered into the dealer room...

My cousins visited last month and brought their PS2 and both games with one guitar-controller. Needless to say most of the visit was spent playing it.
