I WON! I WON! I WON!
My Transformers/Scooby-Doo crossover, "Ghost Jets" (you can read it here [link]), won first place at the Short Story Contest! And the judges said my other entries were fantastic as well. The story's going up on the Fandemonium website, and I got a $20 gift certificate to a bookstore. Not bad at all.
Other things I did... hmmm...
I didn't wear the costume yesterday. Didn't feel like it. I am making plans for next year's costume, however...
I went to a book reading, where a local fantasy author read excerpts from his new novel and answered questions. I got a copy of the book for the library, and he just might come to the library for an author night sometime.
Played more Guitar Hero, since it's the only game in the arcade room I really enjoyed. Dang if "Free Bird" isn't a tough song, even in easy mode...
Participated in a Disney trivia game. Our team placed second. It was tougher than I thought it would be, as they asked questions not just about the movies, but about the old TV shows and the theme parks.
Watched AMVs and FMVs (Anime Music Videos and Fan Music Videos). AMVs are when you make a music video by splicing together clips from an anime show and set them to music; FMVs are when you do the same but use clips from a non-anime show. This year we had music videos set to Full Metal Alchemist, Naruto, Labyrinth (spelling?), the 300, and several animes I didn't recognize. Is it just me, or are a lot of animes loaded with blood and gore?
Closing ceremonies were a blast. The Fandemonium staff were a riot onstage, and at the end the Master of Ceremonies asked everyone to come onstage and engage in a group hug. That was fun. (Closing Ceremonies, as well as other clips from Fandemonium, will be on YouTube eventually. Look for the weirdo in the white-and-brown bucket hat.
Things went on after closing ceremonies, too, such as "Whose Line Is It Anime?" and the Boffer Sword Grand Melee. All in all, I had a terrific time.
Fandemonium 2008 all the way! WHOOOO!
Oh, and I'll work on getting pictures ready for viewing tonight. They should be uploaded and ready by the end of this week at the very latest.

Yes, a lot of anime is really bloody. I came across one of those spoof motivational posters that said 'Blood - The average anime character's body contains 47 gallons of it". Which is so true.
One of the videos features a clip from Full Metal Alchemist where a character got a hole punched through his chest somehow, and he was bleeding on the floor. The pool kept growing and growing and I thought "Dang, hasn't he bled to death yet?"

Q: How many Transformers fans does it take to change a light bulb?
A: Eight. One to change it, and the rest to complain that the light bulb was so much better back in the 80s.
I support well-written, in-character fanfic!
Yeah animes tend to be loaded with all sorts of gratuitous stuff. Partially why I don't watch any of 'em (or the new kinds at least... 80s ftw!)
I give thee a 10 for making off like a bandit!!
Hope to see you there!!

I don't watch anime (except for Miyasaki's films, but he keeps his clean). Partly because I don't understand half of what's going on in them and partly because I'm not that fond of the style, but also partly because I've seen a lot of bloody stuff in the clips I have seen of them.
I have to take pictures of the swag I collected at the 'con, then I'll see about posting them.

Glad to hear that Fandemonium went well for you. Man, I can't wait to hear where Botcon is next summer. I'll be ready and I told my mom I'd drag her there too. She's been long due for a nice road trip. Girls' Weekend out, eh?
Congrats on your story, it's a great piece and man woot!
May there be many more fun Fandemoniums for you to come!

Someone told me they're considering California for next year's BotCon. That might be doable for me if it's on the west coast...
Thanks, and I plan on being there every year they have it!
