"One often finds his destiny on the path he takes to avoid it." -- Master Oogway, Kung Fu Panda
Yay for sleeping in and missing church...
So rumor has it that Season 3 is going to be the last season of Transformers: Animated. I can't say that I'm terribly upset that it might be coming to an end soon, seeing as I wasn't very interested in the show in the first place. And besides, all things must eventually come to an end. (Someone needs to tell that to the people making the Land Before Time movies, because at this rate we'll be following Littlefoot, Cera, Duckie, Petrie, and Spike all the way to the point where the movies are about their fossilized remains gallavanting around some museum...
I have a feeling that Hasbro will be focusing more on the comic books and the next two live-action movies than on a new cartoon series in the near future... but at the same time, it's fun to sit back and dream about what the next cartoon might possibly look like, what the next take on the Transformers universe will turn out to be.
Which is why I'm issuing a challenge to Transformers fans... and participation is completely optional. You don't have to participate if you don't want to. And there's no contest, no prize, no winners. It's all just for fun.
THE CHALLENGE
Imagine that, however incredible it may seem, Hasbro has called you with a special request... they want YOU to help them plan and design the next Transformers cartoon series! You will be required to keep your ideas suitable for airing on TV, of course, but other than that you're given free creative reign.
What will your cartoon be like? Will you make it kid-friendly? Will it be a cartoon geared more toward teenagers and adults, like the Batman cartoons? Will you try to cater to the die-hard fanbase, or will you try to make the cartoon accessible to as many people as possible?
Will it be a spinoff of the live-action movie, similar to the Star Wars "Clone Wars" cartoons? Will it have its roots in G1 or another previous cartoon, or will it be something totally original?
What will the animation style be like -- Western 2D cartoon, anime, CGI, a combination of hand-drawn and CGI, or even stop-motion?
What character names and ideas, if any, will you use from previous cartoons, and what will their appearances and personalities be like? Will it be set in the past, the future, another universe entirely? Will the Transformers become Earth vehicles, animals, futuristic vehicles, or something else entirely?
Leave the logistics of executing your idea to the Hasbro team. For now, just let your imagination run wild.
THE RULES
1. Participation is optional -- no tagging others to do this, and if you start the project but aren't able to finish it you can always back out.
2. No time limit or deadline -- do it whenever you want.
3. Do NOT leave your ideas in the comments section of this journal -- upload them as either a journal entry of your own or as a deviation, then send me a link to your idea. I'll post links to everyone's projects in another journal entry.
4. How you present your ideas is up to you. You can simply write your idea as a summary, or you can illustrate your idea in a drawing or comic.
5. How much you develop your idea is up to you. Whether you just write a summary or you plan out the show's entire first season complete with a plot synopsis of each episode is your decision. (Though remember that you're trying to sell your idea to Hasbro, so the more you develop your idea, the better chance you have...)
6. MAKE SURE YOUR IDEA IS PG-13 OR LOWER. This MUST be suitable for airing on Cartoon Network.
7. No crossovers with non-Hasbro universes. If you think you can make a crossover with a Hasbro-owned franchise work (such as My Little Pony, GI Joe, or Star Wars -- hey, Hasbro owns the toy rights), go nuts.
8. Post your idea in a journal or as a deviation (or several if necessary), and send me a link! I'll collect links to everyone's ideas in another journal entry and share them with people.
Let the games begin!
Today's episode -- Auto-Bop.
Wow, fashion was crazy in the '80s...
Hi Raoul!
...Michael Jackson references in a TF cartoon? Then again, he WAS popular at the time, even if the name has some negative connotations now...
Right in the nick of time, Tracks and Blaster!
I think the fact that these goons are using futuristic blasters of some kind should be a tipoff that something's up... that and the guy in the business suit among them...
Raoul's a little full of himself here... had it under control, eh?
Some really out-of-place people here... the guy in the tux and the lady in curlers and a house robe, to name a few...
...holy crap, the train conductor's out of his MIND...
Blaster the tightrope walker!
People in evening gowns at a construction site? Yup, it's something with the club all right...
Free passes to Dancitron? And those two don't even think to be suspicious? Geez...
"That's what I call a riveting experience!" *groan* That was a bad pun, Tracks...
Yikes! That had to hurt... And this is where the Autobots' hands are tied when it comes to a fight like this -- they don't want to hurt the humans, even when said humans are under Decepticon control.
Huh... Raoul's not as dumb as he sometimes acts...
How loud IS that music if it's enough to be shaking Tracks apart?
Ewww... Raoul, you don't know where that water's been... though I guess at this point he doesn't care...
Good thinking, Raoul! Though if water breaks the hypnotic spell, why did the Decepticons install a sprinkler system? I didn't think they'd care about human safety codes...
"I've been waiting a long time for this, you poor excuse for a sound system." "Enough talk, no shock!" Get the feeling there's a bit of a rivalry between Blaster and Soundwave?
I didn't know Tracks had storm-creating capabilities... that's cool.
Soundwave's got a rather sinister laugh...
Looks like Tracks is enjoying himself in that last scene with Raoul and his buddies... though Blaster doesn't seem too happy.
A fun episode spoiled by one thing -- what WERE the Decepticons building?
Next episode -- The Search for Alpha Trion.
Feature for March 7, 2009
Her Transformers are adorable... but her original art is incredibly fun and colorful as well. I recommend checking out both.

Devious Comments
The idea you spoke of here sounds cool. Too bad the only thing I would want as a cartoon that I can think of would be over PG-13 I think due to the themes. Drats.
Need to think mroe on this *ponders*
Michael Jackson references? Did I miss something when watching this episode? Just curious
I think the name Dancitron is sort of a giveaway whos behind it to XD
I think it might be the old whos the coolest tape deck thing
Hehe ooo a plot hole XD But yes what was that building for anyway? Did Megatron just want a apartment in the middle of town or was there something else going on there?
Ooo, I believe the next one is much fun. And it has the most hilarious animation mistake in all of G1

Aw... what kind of idea did you have? And if you do try out the challenge, have fun.
When all those guys from Dancitron come out and start chasing Raoul and his buddies, Raoul says "Time to pull a Michael Jackson and beat it!" One of them also says something about Prince. Hey, the cartoon was made in the '80s when these guys were popular, so these references are okay...
Blaster, Soundwave, you're both cool in your own ways, okay?
You know, it COULD have been an apartment building...
Most hilarious animation mistake in all of G1... I can't wait...

Q: How many Transformers fans does it take to change a light bulb?
A: Eight. One to change it, and the rest to complain that the light bulb was so much better back in the 80s.
I support well-written, in-character fanfic!

Class, as one: Ghostbusters!
History professor: You kids scare me.
Well ,I know this will risk sounding like I’m full of myself, but I would have loved to see the trilogy made into a animated story/cartoon/movie. But it’s a lil bit too dark for PG-13 I think and probably wouldn’t be a very popular thing but then of course it was never aimed at a younger audience. But I will try this out, don’t promise I’ll come up with something but I’ll try
Oh right, I didn’t notice that to be honest. I will admit that I like Michael Jackson’s music, and to be honest I don’t know what to think about everything that’s been said about him the last years. But hey the 80’s were the 80’s so the references fit.
That they are, they’re very cool
I vote for a building for the Decepticons to do target practice
I won’t spoil it for you, but keep a close eye on Optimus when he speaks to Megatron on Teletran-1 and you’ll see something very amusing
